Experience the Authentic Thai Cuisine on a Cool Rooftop Ambience: Tom Yum Thai, Indiranagar

Thai cuisine is one of the most loved cuisine worldwide for various reasons like; delicate cooking method, nutritional value and in some specific delicacy for its taste. Being a food diversity hub, Bengaluru has many well known Thai restaurants and among them all Tom Yum Thai stands out with its simplicity and elegance.

This rooftop restaurant is located on the CMH Road of Indiranagar. You can depend on Google Maps as it is bit difficult to notice from the moving vehicle.

AMBIENCE

As soon as the elevator door opens on the 4th Floor, a simple environment opens up before you. Ambient lighting and attractive wall arts will definitely win your heart. They have two kind of dining setup. One gives in-restaurant dining experience and another one gives you the rooftop dining experience. Restaurant interiors has been crafted with decent number of wall arts which illustrate the culture of Thailand in a simple manner. While the exterior has been decorated with plants, pebbles and a statue of Buddha as a symbol of peace. They usually play some of the great EDM albums in the background which fills the energy and makes the evening more lively. They do have a separate smokers zone.

SERVICE

They make you feel like you are in Thailand itself. Most of the stewards appears to be from North East region and they are well trained. They will be always there when you need them. I haven’t seen them interfering in between. You can brief them about your priority of dishes and how it should be served, they obey it very obediently. As per my experience language won’t be a problem with the stewards or managers.

FOOD

It's been a while I tasted Thai delicacy. This restaurant illustrated a different level of approach by its culinary expertise in Thai food. Thai cuisine is one of a kind. They usually cook it very gently and it includes multiple steps even for a simplest dish. It requires a lot of patience and to get it right, it also requires expertise. Here in Tom Yum Thai, they have both expertise and passion. Our dining experience was really nice;

Tom Yum Vegetable Clear Soup: One sip and I felt like decades of odds got cleared in my throat. It was divine spicy. The spice level was equally balanced with the well cooked veggies. Just loved this soup and it’s a must try dish in here.

Tom Yum Veg Soup (with coconut milk): I experienced true Thai essence in this soup. The spices and herbs used in it was so perfect that each and every sip felt heavenly. Especially when some sips included lemongrass pieces. Ah! If I’m visiting this restaurant again, this soup is the whole reason for it!

Classic Raw Papaya Salad: It appeared so innocent by looks but believe me it tastes too spicy. It felt wonderful to me but some of my friends were not able handle the spiciness. However, it was well processed raw Papaya tossed with spicy Thai sauce and crispy peanut. It was classic in deed.

Tofu with Cashewnuts: Soft & well marinated tofu with well fried Cashewnuts! What more to expect, it was a perfect combination to satisfy our Thai food cravination at the first place. This dish was so cool we ended up ordering it two more times.

Fried Tofu with Sweet Chilli Topping: Arrrrgh! It appeared to be challenging us all spicy lovers. It’s all about how much spiciness one can handle. I had 4 spoons of it and I was done! My eyes started to cry! Despite such strong spice level I really admire this dish. Because it was not just about adding more spice but the chef has managed to compensate the spiciness with equal amount of seasoning and assorted veggies. I have very few such places in Bengaluru where they know how to tame the spice and this is one among them.

Stir Fried Vegetables: The bowl full of vegetables or a bowl full of healthy calories. Being a non-diet oriented person I didn’t liked this dish as much I liked other dishes. Despite generous use of Soya & Garlic sauces, this dish tasted bland and felt something is not right.

Green Curry with Steamed Rice: It was good. But it slightly failed to impress me in front of such great starters. However, the green curry went well with steamed rice.

DRINKS

As a welcome drink they offered Watermelon Juice which was nice, later during the dining session they presented Shula Red & White wine. I opted for Red Wine it tasted kind of ordinary but paired well with their Spicy Tofu. I also had a chance to taste their Virgin Mojito, it felt bit diluted and they have used lots and lots of ice which is really strange. Any how, taste of the Mojito was good but they can improve a bit.

DESSERTS
Chocolate - Vanilla Scoop: It didn’t take much time to some of my fellow foodies to figure it out that Ice Creams are transported from Managalore’s famous Ideal Ice Creams. Its very very hard to find such Ice Cream in Bengaluru and I’m glad that Tom Yum Thai has taken an extra effort to serve the world famous Ideal Ice Cream in here. The texture of both scoops were so smooth that I fell in love with those. Just brilliant.

GudBud Ice Cream: It was a nice way to end our dining session. It was filled with generous portion of jelly, nuts and flavoured syrups along with strawberry, kesar ice creams and topped with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream. Lovely.

EVERYTHING ELSE: Pricing is moderate and affordable. They do have dedicated parking space in the cellar. Whole restaurant is very neat and hygiene has been maintained well.

FINAL VERDICT: It's a perfect place to enjoy the Thai delicacy and lovely rooftop ambience is a boon. Whether it’s a romantic date or friendly hangout you’ll definitely enjoy the simplicity of this place.

True Italian Pizza in a cool roof top ambience : Onesta, New BEL Road

Onesta, one of the pizza place which was in my bucket list since I read the blog of  Navneeth Thimmappa (Life On Plates)  on Onesta, Koramangala Branch. But whenever I use to visit Koramangala, due to one or other reason I was missing to dine-in this restaurant. But when I heard Onesta has opened a new branch in New BEL Road which is just a few KMs away from my home, I couldn't able to resist and with in a week of its opening I visited this restaurant for dinner.

Honestly, I felt bit odd with my dining experience as I didn't knew they are running promotional trail. When the steward cleared me that its a free trail at the end, my whole odd experience got justified.

LOCATION: This restaurant is located above Mc.Donalds on the New BEL Road, it can be easily missed out from fast moving vehicle as the major branding has been done on third floor. Google Maps can help you to locate this place easily.

AMBIENCE

Its kind of Hybrid ambience, the front face of the restaurant gives a roof top dining experience and the inner part of the restaurant resembles a fine-dine setup with air conditioning. They have a open kitchen setup for baking the pizza at the outer dining area with a true Italian architecture and they have a bakery kind of setup in the inner dining area which houses desserts and starters. Overall ambience is refreshing, they have decorated the whole place with hanging flower pots, vibrant coloured windows and a country style cycle at the entrance.
We got the corner seat on the outdoor dining area which has a perfect view of New BEL Road. Table was quite small and they had stacked 2 comic books along with the cutlers. Being a comic fan I loved this concept and I hope they change them with new editions regularly. If so, I'll be a patron for this restaurant.

SERVICE

Since they were running promotional trail, the service appeared quite straight forward. Instead of giving menu, steward dictated the menu and asked to choose 2 out of 4 veg pizzas and 2 drinks out of 4. The drinks arrived bit slowly, as we were not in hurry I didn't wanted to complain. But the steward was kind enough to replace the green apple drink when I complained that it was heavy on sweet side. Pizza were served at the right time and the steward didn't interrupted too much by suggestions which I liked the most.

DRINKS
Orange Mint Cooler

We ordered Orange Mint Cooler and Green Apple Cooler. As I mentioned earlier the Green Apple Cooler was too sweet, when steward wanted my opinion on drinks I honestly told about the problem. After he replaced it with another one, it tasted good. But, I wish Green Apple Cooler must had strong essence of Green Apple. On the other hand Orange Mint Cooler was perfect and refreshing. The texture of this drink was so tempting. I just loved this drink.

PIZZA
Farmhouse Pizza

We choose Farm House and Mexican Veg Delight, they served small pizza’s on a wooden pan. Farmhouse tasted good but I felt like they should work on quantity of topping. But the ingredients definitely succeeded in appealing my taste buds. Especially the crispy crunchy baby corn, lightly added bell peppers, roughly chopped onions and of course fresh black olives.
Mexican Veg Delight tasted more awesome than the Farmhouse, cheese used in it was too good and the toppings were fresh. The quantity of toppings in this pizza was good. Main attraction of this pizza was cherry tomatoes which satisfied both eyes and taste buds. Along with the cherry Tomato it had capsicum, onion and tiny bits of red chili backed up with Tabasco sauce to give a perfect spicy twist.

EVERYTHING ELSE: They do offer valet parking and two wheeler parking could be difficult as there is no parking place nearby. Hygiene has been maintained very well in every part of the restaurant. Seating is quite comfortable but it's not meant for long conversations.

FINAL VERDICT: A perfect pizza place with true Italian origin and a great ambience. I definitely recommend this place for a great dining experience especially on a rainy evening.

A date with awesome cocktails - TILT, Koramangala, Bengaluru

TILT - A perfect name of the perfect place to start your weekend perfectly! Yes, if you are looking for place to start your weekend in style, then TILT should be definitely on your top 5 list in Koramangala. This place is driven by the people who are passionate about celebrating life and committed to provide a class apart experience to its customers. Here’s my experience about 44th FBAB meetup at TILT!

AMBIENCE: It literally looks like a den from outside, upon entering the TILT a beautiful luxury lounge which is completely opposite to Tilt’s outlook welcomes you. The lounge has been crafted nicely and it's a perfect place for family crowd. Once you pass the lounge you enter into the most happening place of Tilt - the Dance Floor. It's completely lit with the great flashing lights and the dance floor is exactly below the DJ space. Bar is located next to the dance floor making it more convenient to the party lovers. Another side of the dance floor hosts 4-5 tables. There are two dim lit mezzanine which is perfect for the couples and groups who love spending time with the music and drinks. There is big screen in the centre of Tilt which screens major sports event. The whole ambience will thrill you when the music starts pumping up..

SERVICE: They are too professional, right from welcoming you to the serving part they show a great professionalism. It looks like they have mended over time. Because each steward is well known about the menu. Whether it comes to food or drinks they will surely help you out in choosing the best. They are friendly and understand the guests requirement very well.

DRINKS

TILT is known for its master class cocktails. Each and every cocktails tasted different from the league. Some drinks might feel way too different in taste and texture compared to other trending cocktail bars in the town but it won’t take much time to realize that it's better than them all. Because the proportion they follow is precise and instead of using the packaged fruit flavors they use natural (kind of homemade) puree in their cocktails. Using natural fruit puree gives out a strong essence to the cocktails. If you just want to try entirely new trend in cocktails, then this is the place for you.

Some of the drinks which we enjoyed in our meetup are;

BAMBOLAEO: Ah! Indeed it was a great way to start my evening… First sip made me to feel like I’m at a beach enjoying sunset. This mocktail has been crafted so well that I ended up having one more. It was a great combination of fresh pineapple juice and coconut cream with some other fruit flavors. It was just awesome.

Summery Melon: This mocktail was smooth and straight! It was mixture of some popular fruits usually used in cocktails like water melon, apple, lime & of course cranberry. It was just the way it should be.

I’m Blue: Though the name reminds about the Avatar, it definitely feels like its from out of this world. Its a tequila based cocktail with many flavors flashing in the background. Pineapple & coconut flavors being the strong, it also hinted a little lime splash. It was a gentleman's drink indeed.

Jack went Crazy: Who doesn’t love Jack!! and we love him even more when he promises to drive us Crazzzzyy! Yes, it was the drink which was on high demand on that evening or I can say everyone went crazy about “Jack went Crazy”. This drink was amazing combination of homemade blackberry liqueur, blackberry puree with Jack Daniels. The proportion was maintained accurately at the beginning but at the end of the evening unfortunately it became light. Nevertheless people love every version of Jack :P

Cranberry and Mint lemonades: Taste of this vodka based cocktail was as good as its presentation. The true cranberry taste has been defined so well with fresh cranberries puree, lime & cranberry juice. Initially it was served with cranberry popsicle which really tempted me. But when I ordered it was served without popsicle as it was out of stock. However, it tasted too good.

Fruit of the Forest: A tropical cocktail full of flavours of various berries. Its Vodka based with generous portion of strawberry, raspberries, blackberry, fruit liqueur and lime soda. It tasted awesome like it has came straight from an angel’s hand. But, I felt like they have put too much ice which dilutes the taste too quickly.

Pornstar Martini: Yup! It was naughty, sexxy & Straight!!! It was a naked version of Martini as the texture Vodka was strong which was paired with passion fruit and vanilla gomme. Since I’m not use to such strong liquor textures I just tasted and didn’t dared to order one for me. But yes! I appreciate the one who found a perfect name for this drink.

FOOD

Honestly, being a vegetarian I was quite surprised and disappointed after seeing the menu which was specially made for our FBAB bloggers meetup. Except Golden Fried Babycorn in the starter nothing was there as veg on the menu. But, as soon as we informed the managers the chef swung into the action and delivered some of the tastiest veg delicacies in no time. I became a huge fan of the chef for crafting such awesome food with minimum preparation time and as per our specific requirement.

Golden Fried Babycorn: This was the only veg delicacy we initially had in menu. But, it tasted so good that I decided that I can survive the evening by having only this dish. It was perfectly fried and the strong garlic manchurian sauce served with it increased the taste even more. An unforgettable starter indeed.

Gobi Manchurian: Upon our request chef prepared this, the presentation was too good but it tasted just above average. Nevertheless we enjoyed it with the veg salad served with it.

Cottage Cheese Steak with Boiled Vegetables and Herb rice: An exclusive veggie version for main course which appeared like an art. It tasted even better than its presentation. The cottage cheese with pepper sauce was a fantastic combination. Cottage cheese was super soft and use to get slice just upon placing the knife. On the other hand herb rice was nice and boiled veggies served with it was perfect. Being spicy lover i just wish a pinch of pepper would have turned herb rice more desirable.

Red Sauce Pasta: One of the common main course which helps you to fill small gaps in your tummy. It tasted good and the ingredients were in right proportion with the spice level being just perfect.

Desserts: After such great experience with starters and main course we had a  great expectation towards desserts, but it was a great let down. They served tiramisu & apple pie as desserts. Tiramisu didn’t tasted like tiramisu and apple pie was too hard and had trace of light sourness. They need to improve a lot when it comes to the dessert section.

EXPERIENCE

A warm welcome from the staffs gave a hint that the evening will be memorable. Though we started the evening in a lame manor, as the time passed, drinks served and people joined for the conversation it started to become more lively. By the time we were served with main course music started to pump up and dance mode was on. We hit the crazy TILT dance floor and danced till we got the booze out. Evening becomes much more enjoyable at TILT if you have a great company. I enjoyed every moment at TILT.

EVERYTHING ELSE: They have a decent place for parking and they offer valet parking too. Hygiene has been maintained well all over the place. Management will take good care of your privacy and safety while allowing you to enjoy to the fullest. It could be a great place to enjoy live sports event with your group.

FINAL VERDICT : Exclusive array of cocktails is the primary reason to recommend this place. Added to that an amazing evening experience and reasonably good food will surely mesmerize you. Best place to have a TILTy weekend.
